Linear Heat Detection

Fiber Optic Linear Heat Detector

Fiber Optic Linear Heat Detector transmits laser light pulses and analyzes the return signal, measuring temperatures in real-time along the length of the fiber optic cable. Distributed temperature sensing (DTS) allows for a quick response in the early stages of a fire in cable lines up to 9.6 km long and enables precise location detection.

  • It is used to quickly detect vehicle fires in traffic/railway tunnels or to identify the early stages of an electrical fire in hard-to-reach electrical cable tunnels.
  • It provides real-time temperature monitoring for the implementation of a preventive system (not just reactive) that can predict critical conditions on conveyor belts and generate pre-alarms for abnormal temperature conditions.
  • It is directed along lithium-ion battery racks to identify the early stages of thermal runaway. When specific temperature thresholds are met, the connected Fike fire panel can initiate the BMS system to cut off power to the overheated battery system.
  • In large, dusty environments where air sampling may be difficult, flexible fiber optic linear heat cables can be strategically routed to detect the early stages of fire caused by electrical short circuits, overheated or faulty equipment, and many other sources.

Lineat Heat Cable

Increased heat melts the reactive polymer covering the two steel conductors, allowing the detector module to sense the early stages of the fire. When the two conductors come into contact, an electrical short circuit occurs, and the connected PIM 530 module transmits the information to the fire panel.

Fike Video Analytics IP (FVA‐IP) Camera

FVA IP camera combines the advanced resolution and image clarity of a standard analog/network camera with built-in fire, smoke, and motion detection features. The camera’s proprietary built-in analytics is used to continuously monitor the video frame by frame, pixel by pixel, to detect fire, smoke, and motion characteristic anomalies. The camera’s video processing algorithms include:

Blazing Fire – Looks for a bright core of flame and a specific fire pattern.

Smoke Columns – Identifies anomalies caused by smoke and analyzes the progression over a period of time to identify the growing smoke cloud.

Ambient Smoke – Monitors light sources and light scattering from bright objects in video images to detect patterns consistent with the slow accumulation of smoke.

Intrusion Detection – Can monitor multiple areas of the video image to detect moving objects at different times. This can be used to detect and record wanted or unwanted individual.

Unlike traditional spot smoke detectors or heat sensors that require the transmission and accumulation of smoke or heat to trigger an alarm, the FVAIP camera uses video image analysis to monitor the fire condition throughout the area monitored by the camera. It does not rely on the transmission of smoke or heat to activate the alarm. This key difference results in faster detection of smoke and fire. In the event of a fire or smoke, the camera sends an alert signal to a monitoring computer running Fike Video Management Software (VMS) via built-in contact closures and digitally transmitted transmissions over IP.
