Product Types
Carbon dioxide extinguishing systems are particularly suitable for high-risk areas where it is necessary to protect protected objects in the event of a fire, to minimise operational interruptions after a fire, to prevent reactions between the burnt material and the extinguishing agent, to prevent damage from the extinguishing agent and to effectively extinguish objects in areas with difficult access.
Extinguishing with carbon dioxide reduces the oxygen in the air of the protected area to a level well below the natural level of 21 per cent by volume. Carbon dioxide in concentrations capable of extinguishing fires can be harmful to life, so special safety precautions must be taken. The extinguishing process does not start until after a predetermined warning time so that there is sufficient time to leave the room.
Carbon dioxide is stored in high-pressure cylinders or low-pressure tanks. The optimal supply method depends on the amount of gas required and the specific situation.
Storage of the extinguishing agent in high-pressure steel cylinders
High-pressure steel cylinders are assembled in a cylinder centre in a special frame with independent suspension system at the installation location. Large groups of gas cylinders, arranged in one or more rows, can be stored in a surprisingly small space. The special frames can be easily adapted for larger protection zones or for the quick exchange of individual cylinders. Each cylinder hanger is also a weighing unit that automatically indicates the minimum leakage of the extinguishing agent.
Gas storage in low pressure tanks
If large quantities of extinguishing agent are required for the overall safety concept, low-pressure tanks are particularly recommended from an economic point of view. Liquefied carbon dioxide is stored in this tank at approx. -20 °C and an operating pressure of approx. 20 bar. A cooling unit ensures a constant low temperature. Operating costs are minimised thanks to an optimised insulation design. The storage tank is mounted on a calibratable electronic weighing system that continuously indicates the actual weight and thus any possible gas loss due to leakage
Thanks to its outstanding properties, the carbon dioxide extinguishing system is the ideal fire protection solution for many application areas.
